Post-Chill Application of FreshFx – A Highly Effective Weapon Against Salmonella Contamination in Poultry Processing
SteriFx, Inc. announces that its FreshFx® antimicrobial solution is highly effective at safely and dramatically reducing Salmonella contamination when applied post-chill in poultry processing. FreshFx can be used as a spray or dip to control Salmonella positives post-chill where most beneficial. FreshFx is proven to reduce Salmonella, in some cases down to 0% positives.
FreshFx is USDA approved and offers a major breakthrough in poultry antimicrobial intervention systems. The patented formula consists of an all GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) blend of acids that is non-toxic despite its low pH. It is simple, yet powerful as an antimicrobial system. FreshFx provides a safe, extremely cost-effective means to effectively guard against Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria, and Campylobacter in poultry processing with low environmental impact.
SteriFx has received written USDA approval for use of FreshFx antimicrobial solution in multiple steps along the poultry processing line, including the scalder, NY rinse, pre-evisceration, chiller, on-line reprocessing and post-chill. Multiple points of antimicrobial intervention lowers microbial counts and prevents cross-contamination. FreshFx is extremely effective as an intervention when correcting a failed Salmonella window.
“We continue to see an immediate need for post-chill antimicrobial interventions to control and reduce Salmonella prevalence in poultry processing,” said John Dankert, Ph.D., SteriFx Vice President of Research and Development. “Incorporating FreshFx as part of a company’s HACCP efforts to control pathogens enhances product safety and quality, while avoiding the negative publicity that results from a pathogen incident.”
FreshFx is supplied as a stable solution concentrate that is diluted on-site for application, eliminating the need for any special mixing equipment or chemical reactions. Controlled dilution requires minimal equipment and readily adapts to existing plant configurations and general safety procedures.
